About WARU
WARU is a sacred space to reconnect with the essential nature of the Earth and of Being.
Who We Are
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to regenerating our area and to human development. WARU is an Aboriginal word that conveys the idea of united organisms working cooperatively. We bring together people, projects, resources, and knowledge to sow a new culture of care and awareness.
Our Origins
In 2007, WARU was founded as a nature sanctuary by a group of practitioners of Toltec knowledge. The word Toltec means that we are artists of knowledge and of our own lives. The practices are energetic and psychophysical body movements along with pillars of this knowledge. In 2017, WARU formally aligned itself with the Dream For the World Institute and established our NGO to develop consciousness retreats and ecological restoration programs.
Our Location
Vale do Cercado, Palmeiras, Chapada Diamantina, Bahia – BR. WARU is located within the Marimbus Iraquara Environmental Protection Area, surrounded by mountains and rivers. We have solar panels, internet, silence, and the living presence of the earth. Here there are no artificial lights or urban noises. Immersed in nature, the property has a natural stream and bathing area, as well as a sustainable infrastructure that includes practice spaces, adobe accommodations, a camping area, and a kitchen with a dining area.
